"The best executive is the one who has sense enough to pick good men to do what he wants done, and self-restraint enough to keep from meddling with them while they do it."
In my experiences, this quote is absolutely true. A truly effective and successful organization, public or private, has a chief executive who is smart enough to pick good folks to do the job and then is smart enough to let them do the work they were hired to do. Certainly, at some point there may be some intervention needed but overall, a chief executive is the guy who trusts his department heads to make sure the company/organization delivers on the expectations that are set for the company.
